Bio

Over the last fifteen years Carrie Coco has worked in photomontage ... at first exploring the medium by layering photos in camera, building up images directly on film ... a technique that requires masterful command of both color theory and pre-visualization.  She then moved into the darkroom, and now creates images digitally, incorporating photography, water color, collage and mark-making.

"I am deeply fascinated by interactions," says Coco. "What happens when space, color, form and text come together to create a marriage for the senses?  Where is the power, the light, indeed the Spirit in these juxtapositions?  How are we transformed by these encounters?

Carrie studied photojournalism at Indiana University and fine art at the International Center of Photography in New York City, where she was assistant to famed photomontage artist Audrey Bernstein.

She is the author/ illustrator of the book "Prayers of Peace" published by Council Oak Books and has created illustrations for musicians, book publishers, and manufacturers.  Her artworks have been exhibited in numerous solo and group shows, included in private collections nationwide and favorably reviewed in the national and regional press.
